CAMX 2015

CAMX Composites and Advanced Materials Expo
Back from a very informative and productive CAMX expo in Dallas. The show focuses on composites and advanced materials. A natural fit for our basalt materials!

CAMX is where all the latest and greatest advances in composites technology are shared and exhibited. A perfect opportunity to meet new contacts, learn about what other companies have to offer and talk about new opportunities and collaborations.

It is so refreshing to get away from day to day business and be exposed to new ideas and possibilities. Just walking the tradeshow floor and talking to like-minded businessmen brought up several new ideas for integrating our products. New prototypes are made and new tests researched all from an initial meeting and conversation at the show.

Our basalt fibers were of great interest to surfboard makers, 3D printing, ballistics, and concrete reinforcements to name a few. All in all, a productive and enjoyable few days with the added benefit of Dallas’ hospitality.

Working with concrete and steel for over 25 years has given me an innate understanding of the properties and use of these materials. From rebuilding old homes in New England to hospitals in Alaska, union work on the pipeline, and commercial jobs from Hawaii to Arizona and Florida, I have seen a great deal!

My motivation when seeing people lose their homes to fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc. is the knowledge that by building correctly many of these homes, and lives can be spared. New standards are in place such as installing better windows or hurricane ties. However to me these are just band-aids on the greater problem of building correctly in the first place. Homes can be built today with designs and new reinforcements that can withstand the elements.
