Oven made with basalt reinforcements

How do you make an oven that can process thousands of degrees of heat? Geo-polymer cement fortified with basalt reinforcements! This high temperature oven was built by Jonathan Hampton in Arizona. Jonathan has been making geo-polymers for years. This oven was recently hand made, it can handle over 2,000 degrees and is processing precious metals! Basalt rebars, mesh … [Read more...]

Basalt fabric forming with concrete

Ultra high performance concretes with basalt fibers and basalt fabrics as the structure. Fabric forming with basalt will open up a whole new world of architecture. Amazing flexural modulus, astounding strength and durability and the ability to fashion very thin yet light and strong products and buildings is now ready for your experimentation. I really can not wait to see … [Read more...]

The many uses of Basalt include the following

1. Textile applications for fire protection Basalt does not melt nor shrink in the flame and, when not mechanically stressed, keeps its geometric integrity. When coming to heat resistance, Basalt is exceptionally suited to block fire. Basalt products resist the open flame. Basalt melts at ca. 1450 C. A fabric made of Basalt, with a Bunsen burner pointed at it (1100 - 1200 … [Read more...]

Basalt is the future, it is ready now and proven!

Basalt rebars, basalt mesh, basalt chopped fibers and basalt rope twine, are stronger than steel and will never rust or corrode. Some stainless steel can be used in combination where needed if structural loads or shear factors are concerns. This goes for bridges and commercial buildings as well. Basalt is much stronger and yet lighter and lasting many dozens of years longer … [Read more...]

Basalt Geogrids, Basalt Meshes, and Basalt Chopped fibers for Concrete and Asphalt

February 13, 2014 by Basalt Guru 8 Comments

Asphalt road overlays suffer from serious cracking under heavy traffic. Basalt fibers will extend the life of asphalt or concrete pavement while allowing for less material! So if a half an inch less asphalt can be applied while having a 30-50 percent better lifespan, it is a no-brainer! For concrete walls needing repairs and for longevity, add basalt chopped fibers and … [Read more...]

Working with concrete and steel for over 25 years has given me an innate understanding of the properties and use of these materials. From rebuilding old homes in New England to hospitals in Alaska, union work on the pipeline, and commercial jobs from Hawaii to Arizona and Florida, I have seen a great deal!

My motivation when seeing people lose their homes to fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc. is the knowledge that by building correctly many of these homes, and lives can be spared. New standards are in place such as installing better windows or hurricane ties. However to me these are just band-aids on the greater problem of building correctly in the first place. Homes can be built today with designs and new reinforcements that can withstand the elements.
