American Society of Civil Engineers Concrete Canoe National Competition: The Michigan Technology University’s Concrete Canoe Team took first place in the Midwest Region and 8th place at the National competition in Tyler, Texas last month. They placed top 10 in all categories.
Using basalt mesh in the canoe construction made it super strong. The basalt mesh helped increase the flexural strengths which resulted in no micro cracking during races.
Another example of real world use with basalt reinforcements. While being super light they are very strong and resilient. Congratulations to Michigan Technology University and thank you for sharing your story with us.
