Larte Design use basalt fiber in Tesla Model S front bumper

July 20, 2016 by Basalt Guru 3 Comments

Voltes Design partnered up with Larte Design and came up with the Voltes Gen-SS exterior styling pack for the Tesla range of vehicles. One option for the front bumper is basalt fiber for superior strength.

Tesla Model S with basalt fiber front bumper

“Combining aggressive design with outstanding quality, the Larte Design front bumper will transform the front end of your Model S, giving it eye-catching supercar looks to match its supercar-like performance. The Larte Design front bumper uses a choice of two methods of construction. As standard it comes in a plastic composite material which is strong and durable. For the ultimate in motorsport-inspired strength and light weight, the bumper can be made from Basalt Fibre which is new material to the automotive world and has very similar properties to Carbon Fibre, being extremely strong while impressively light weight.”

Hi Vittorio, Basalt is used in bumpers because of the great impact qualities-adding carbon nano-tubes to the resin makes that even much better. We can make a beautiful golden color of
basalt in one layer-putting something light underneath it to keep that color then more basalt layers underneath. Painting it is easy.

Working with concrete and steel for over 25 years has given me an innate understanding of the properties and use of these materials. From rebuilding old homes in New England to hospitals in Alaska, union work on the pipeline, and commercial jobs from Hawaii to Arizona and Florida, I have seen a great deal!

My motivation when seeing people lose their homes to fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, etc. is the knowledge that by building correctly many of these homes, and lives can be spared. New standards are in place such as installing better windows or hurricane ties. However to me these are just band-aids on the greater problem of building correctly in the first place. Homes can be built today with designs and new reinforcements that can withstand the elements.
